CHIANGMAI FLOODS UPDATE
Taken between 11.30 hrs and 15.00 hrs on 21/09/2005
If it's not important to go anywhere....Don't! I have just returned home after a very lengthy trip around Chiangmai trying to find dry roads. I started off around the Chiangmai museum and went along the Superhighway to the bridge. The underpass was naturally well under water. I turned off the Superhighway on the road leading to the Nakornping Bridge, a mistake! The road outside the McCormick Hospital was under water and probably went down to the river. I drove round the back, and came into town on the NE corner of the Klong and down to Loi Kroh. Had to turn right into Kampaengdin as Changklan was awash. Carried straight on over Sridonchai and stopped at soi six. The whole area was pretty well under water. I carried on through Tippanet, and onto the Airport road, took the overpass onto the Superhighway thinking this would be safe. Another mistake. Stopped just past the bridge over the Ping by the police station, and again, water everywhere, with the river well in flood plain. Over the Chiangmai-Lamphun overpass, noticing that the road below was well under water leading into Nong Hoi. The next overpass was the killer with around a foot of water on either side. OK this is where I start to get out and push, but we made it through, under the watchful eyes of army volunteers with tow trucks, also local police. Took the Sangkampaeng turn offand headed home down the Mae Rim road.
